Let me introduce myself. My name is Suzanne Devitt and I have been in education for over 18 years. I have earned a Master’s Degree in Education and am currently working towards a Doctoral Degree in Educational Leadership. I have taught kindergarten through adult learners and have spent the last few years in curriculum and professional development. I have enjoyed every stop along the way, but most definitely find my passion in early childhood education.
This blog is intended to be an informal conversation about early learning opportunities for both classroom teachers and caregivers. You might be wondering about the peculiar title. Why would someone choose to pair learning and laundry? The answer is simple. Learning can happen and should happen everywhere. Parents and caregivers remain the most important influence in a child’s life and can set them up for long term success. Whether doing laundry or sitting in a classroom, learning can take place. Never miss an opportunity! Also, in my world…..learning and laundry are the only things that are never ever finished.

I like your analogy of the laundry and learning. I agree that learning is a never ending task. The difference for me is that I enjoy learning and mastering new things all the time. I don’t feel the same way about doing laundry, however it is much better the doing dishes or cleaning bathrooms. I really like the way you started your blog and I look forward to more posts.

I actually do enjoy laundry. It is the only time I get any peace and quiet. My rule is that if you come and talk to me during laundry time, you have to help. No one seems to bother me. I wonder why?

I can so relate to your blog. I feel this current course is making me use some learning muscles that I have not used in a while, and I am being stretched. I guess it is time to exercise!

I particularly liked your comment “Never miss an opportunity!” How true is this. This could not be truer than with the youngest of our students. They are like little sponges taking in everything we say and do. So, “Never miss an opportunity!” You are always on stage; make a difference.
